See the Gas-Powered Oxalic Acid Vaporiser in Action
Beekeeper Experiences and Reviews
See how other beekeepers introduce the gas-powered oxalic acid vaporiser and use it in practice.
Instructions for Use
The gas-powered oxalic acid vaporiser is practical and very easy to use. We have prepared a short guide to help you get started.
First, screw the gas burner onto the gas cartridge. Then place the sublimator on the burner and secure it with the supplied clamp.
Prepare the oxalic acid: use the supplied spoon to measure approximately 1–2 g of oxalic acid into each cap.
Turn the vaporiser upside down and fit a cap containing oxalic acid. The oxalic acid is still in the cold cap and has not yet sublimated.
Turn the vaporiser back to its normal position so that the oxalic acid powder falls into the sublimator. If the sublimator is already heated, sublimation begins immediately and white fumes emerge from it.
Insert the gas-powered oxalic acid vaporiser into the hive entrance so that the fumes containing sublimated oxalic acid can enter the hive. Sublimation takes approximately 30–45 seconds.
Important Notes on Using the Sublimator Correctly
1. Heat only briefly
Keep the gas burner on only until the central chamber has heated up and sublimation begins. As soon as white vapour emerges from the vaporiser, switch off the burner. This saves gas and helps prevent the oxalic acid from overheating and the vaporiser from being damaged.
2. Use a small flame
Use the smallest possible flame that still burns evenly and steadily. Follow the burner's instructions when adjusting the gas and air supply.
3. Caution: avoid overheating
The sublimator is made of aluminium. The burner flame can reach temperatures above the melting point of aluminium. Heating at maximum flame intensity for several minutes can irreparably damage the sublimator. Therefore, switch off the burner as soon as no further heat is needed.

With Thermometer: Keep an Eye on the Temperature
The Teflon cap with integrated thermometer gives you additional insight into the chamber temperature during sublimation. You can read the temperature directly and follow how it changes as you heat the device manually.
The thermometer monitors the temperature but does not regulate it automatically.
Great Performance with a Kemper Gas Burner
The vaporiser has been tested with a Kemper gas burner, which offers:
Piezo ignition for safe and convenient lighting
An ergonomically shaped handle for a comfortable grip during sublimation
A nozzle for regulating the air supply and therefore the flame intensity
We recommend using the gas-powered oxalic acid vaporiser with a Kemper 1060 gas burner.
The gas-powered oxalic acid vaporiser can also be used with other gas burners, provided they have a compatible nozzle diameter of 21.2 mm.
Replacement Cartridges Are Easy to Find
The gas burner uses threaded gas cartridges. The screw connection provides a simple and secure attachment between the burner and cartridge.
The cartridges contain a butane-propane mixture, which also supports operation at lower outdoor temperatures. Observe the temperature range specified by the manufacturer and use only cartridges with a compatible connection.
Restocking is easy: Compatible replacement cartridges are available at many hardware stores, such as BAUHAUS or OBI. Alternatively, you can order them directly from our online shop and have them delivered to your address.
Oxalic Acid Dosage
The recommended amount is 1–2 g of oxalic acid per colony, depending on the advice of a veterinarian or experienced beekeeper. The gas-powered oxalic acid vaporiser set also includes a measuring spoon. Approximately half a spoonful is equivalent to approximately 2 g of oxalic acid.
Pour the measured amount into the supplied caps and you are ready to begin sublimation.
Oxalic acid tablets can also be used for easier dosing.
Protective Equipment: Professional 3M Respirators
We recommend professional 3M respirators with a filter combination suitable for use with oxalic acid.
Choosing the correct protective equipment is essential when working with oxalic acid fumes. 3M offers a variety of filters that protect against hazardous fumes. It is particularly important to choose the correct filter class (ABE) for oxalic acid fumes. ABE gas filters alone do not filter particles: select the appropriate particulate protection as well, in accordance with the oxalic acid product instructions and the respirator manufacturer's guidance.
What Does the ABE Classification Mean?
The ABE filter class protects against:
Organic vapours (A)
Inorganic gases (B)
Acid gases (E)
Look for the characteristic brown, grey and yellow colour coding, which indicates an ABE filter. Confirm that the complete filter combination is suitable for the exposure before use.
Why Choose 3M Filters?
3M is a trusted brand known for high-quality personal protective equipment (PPE). To help ensure maximum safety, always buy genuine 3M filters and masks. Counterfeit products may not provide adequate protection and can put your health at risk.
Recommended Masks for ABE Filters
3M half masks, which are lightweight and suitable for many applications.
3M full-face masks, which provide additional eye protection and a full-face seal for higher-risk environments.
Both types of mask are compatible with suitable 3M ABE filters and are designed to offer comfort and protection.
Important Selection Tips
Check the colour coding: Make sure your filter is marked brown, grey and yellow to identify ABE protection.
Ensure compatibility: The filter must fit your 3M mask model securely.
Replace filters regularly: Follow the manufacturer's instructions to maintain reliable protection.
Use genuine 3M filters and masks selected for the specific oxalic acid exposure and applicable safety standards. Always choose genuine 3M products to protect your health and ensure the best possible performance.
The gas sublimator becomes very hot during use. Do not touch it without suitable protective work gloves!
Frequently Asked Questions About the Gas-Powered Oxalic Acid Vaporiser
Question
Do I need electricity or a battery?
Answer
No. The sublimator is powered by a compatible gas burner. Neither a mains connection nor a device battery is required.
Question
What is the difference between the three sets?
Answer
All three sets contain the same basic sublimator. The thermometer set adds a thermometer. The set with thermometer and respirator also includes a respirator. Shipping within Germany is included with both enhanced sets.
Question
Does the thermometer regulate the temperature automatically?
Answer
No. The thermometer displays the temperature. You control the heat manually in accordance with the instructions for use.
Question
Can I order without a thermometer?
Answer
Yes. The basic version does not include a thermometer. Choose the thermometer set if you want a readable temperature display.
Question
How much do I save with the respirator set?
Answer
You can see the saving compared with buying the items separately in the package overview. Shipping within Germany is also free.
Question
What should I bear in mind when using it?
Answer
Follow the device's instructions for use and the directions for the veterinary medicinal product used, which must be authorised in the country of use. Wear the required personal protective equipment. Dosage and application must follow the relevant product information.

I received your shipment in excellent condition. The carton was undamaged on the outside and looked like new. As for the interior: it matched the description and the product was flawless. Above all, don't change your packaging or your logistics partner. When I opened it I was surprised, as I had expected much more assembly than simply attaching the scraper feet — but it is perfect.
